About

I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Project for Middle Class Renewal at the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My research focuses on how public policy shapes family economic well-being and the financial coping and social mobility strategies of low-income families. I am particularly interested in the role of tax policy in shaping family economic well-being and the ways policy and administration of various tax policies misalign with social and economic needs of low-income families, particularly families of color, given diverse family structures and structural inequalities.

I received my Ph.D. in Social Work, Policy and Practice from the University of Chicago, my Masters in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and my Bachelors in psychology from the University of South Florida. Outside of academia, I served as a program manager at the Center for Economic Progress on a demonstration project of a periodic payment of the Earned Income Tax Credit in collaboration with researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and I have past professional experience as a social service caseworker, a union organizer, and a Peace Corps volunteer.
